Step Into Summer
One of the things I've loved about following Dr. Jennifer Ashton's monthly wellness challenges this year is how simple they are. Instead of trying to change everything at once, each month focuses on one healthy habit that can make a real difference over time.
For July, the challenge is simple:
Take more steps.
There is something refreshing about that. No complicated workout plans. No expensive equipment. Just move a little more every day.
Summer gives us the perfect opportunity to do exactly that. Longer days, beautiful evenings, vacations, neighborhood walks, trips to the farmers market, outdoor concerts, or simply parking a little farther away all add up. Those extra steps aren't just good for burning calories—they're good for your heart, your mood, your energy, and your long-term health.
As someone who has spent much of my life running and exercising, I've learned that movement doesn't always have to be intense to be beneficial. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise we can do, and it's something almost everyone can incorporate into their day.
Don't Forget to Protect Your Skin
With more time outdoors comes another important reminder—protect your skin.
Healthy skin is part of healthy living, and daily sun protection is one of the simplest anti-aging habits we can practice. I encourage you to wear sunscreen every day, even when you're simply running errands or taking a walk.
Here are a few of my favorite options:
Counter Daily Mineral Sunscreen
One of my favorite facial sunscreens because it feels lightweight, wears beautifully under makeup, and provides broad-spectrum mineral protection.
Arbonne Tinted Veil SPF
Perfect when you want light coverage with SPF protection. I often reach for this on busy summer mornings when I want my skin to look natural while staying protected.
Oliveda Olive Rose Skin Tint
This has become another favorite because it gives your skin a beautiful healthy glow while offering mineral sun protection. It's a wonderful option for those "no-makeup makeup" summer days.
The best sunscreen is the one you'll wear consistently, so find one you love and make it part of your morning routine. Take the quiz here to find your shade.
My July Challenge for You
This month, keep it simple.
Add 2,000–3,000 more steps to your day.
Take one evening walk after dinner.
Invite a friend or family member to join you.
Wear your sunscreen every day.
Notice how you feel by the end of the month.
Healthy living doesn't happen because of one big decision—it happens because of hundreds of small ones repeated over time.
Let's enjoy these beautiful summer days, soak up the fresh air (responsibly!), move our bodies, and continue building healthy habits that will serve us for years to come.
Here's to a healthy, active, sun-safe July!
